Welcome to the Emory in the Community Website

Service. It's more than a word or a process; it is one of Emory's core values, firmly stated as a "commitment to knowledge to improve human well-being." Service is why, and what happens when, Emory faculty members engage their students in real-world learning and problem solving. Not only do students then learn core concepts more easily and deeply, they also learn how, as Mohandas Gandhi said, to "be the change you wish to see in the world." Engaged learning and scholarship in service to community is how Emory accepts what Campus Compact, a coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents, calls "the public purposes of colleges and universities . . . to improve community life and to educate students for civic and social responsibility."
