8/10/2008 - This new class, offered in partnership with the Interfaith Health Program, will showcase Emory faculty strengths in the disciplines of religion and health and explore this intriguing “intersection.” Participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about a variety of religions and particular beliefs and practices that influence the health of individuals, groups, and society. The Interfaith Health Program (IHP) builds and nurtures broad, rich, and deep networks for learning within and across health and faith systems-local, national, and global. Confucius Institute
8/10/2008 - Evening at Emory Joins with the Confucius Institute to present Chinese language, culture, art and history classes taught by highly esteemed Emory University faculty members. Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute which aims at promoting Chinese language and culture and supporting local Chinese teaching internationally through affiliated Confucius Institutes. Its headquarters are in Beijing, and it is sponsored by the The Office of Chinese Language Council International or Hanban. The Confucius Institute in Atlanta is the first in the state of Georgia, and the only one in the nation to be jointly administered by a private university and a public school system. Its mission is to help introduce k–12 instruction in Modern Standard Chinese throughout Georgia and foster knowledge of Chinese language and culture in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area. It is “designed to be a gateway to Chinese language and culture for individuals, families, communities and schools in metro Atlanta and the surrounding area,” says Rong Cai, Emory associate professor of Chinese Studies and the inaugural director of the institute. - Learn more
