Faculty and Staff Onboarding

All members of the Emory community who plan to be on campus—for any amount of time—must complete the onboarding process.

Below is the onboarding process for faculty, staff, and medical residents who will work, teach, and conduct research on campus.

Please continue to work remotely if your responsibilities do not require you to be on campus. Unit leaders will determine which responsibilities require being on campus and will notify those individuals directly.

For those who are instructed to come on campus, rest assured that Emory has instituted health and safety guidelines for offices, classrooms, and common areas to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus and mitigate risk to our students, faculty, and staff.

If you were previously approved to return to campus, please review the items below to ensure completion of each step. The Spring 2021 Onboarding Portal will indicate the new items that are now required for the new term.

  1. EMORY FACULTY/STAFF COMMUNITY COMPACT: Read, review, and agree to the expectations and guidelines outlined in the Faculty/Staff Community Compact.
  2. COVID-19 RETURN TO CAMPUS TRAINING: If you have not yet completed the required training on important health and safety guidelines for returning to campus (physical distancing, face covering requirements, personal protective equipment, hygiene, self-monitoring for symptoms, etc.), you will need to do so as part of the onboarding process. Once logged into ELMS, search for course #200845. Once registered for the course, choose “launch.”
  3. HEALTH ASSESSMENT: Complete a confidential health screening questionnaire about your contact with persons who have tested positive, travel, and symptoms you might have experienced.
  4. EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION CONTACT: Enroll in (or review) the Emergency Notification System and ensure your mobile phone number is up to date. This number will be used for contact tracing in the event of COVID-19 exposure. Log in to PeopleSoft Self-Service > click Notifications and Contacts > click Emergency Notification System.
  5. CONTACT TRACING: Provide (or review) a baseline list of close contacts whom you regularly encounter at Emory for the purpose of effective contact tracing in the event of COVID-19 exposure. A close contact is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset. Your baseline contacts should include Emory faculty, staff, and students with whom you routinely expect to interact with while on campus. Log in to PeopleSoft Self-Service > click Notifications and Contacts > click Contact Tracing. Complete the form and submit OK. For future updates to the Emergency Notification System or Contact Tracing, select the Notification and Contacts tile in Self-Service.
  6. FLU SHOT REQUIREMENT: Emory University now requires that everyone returning to campus for the spring semester receive a flu shot, preferably at least two weeks before returning to campus. Please complete the 20/21 Flu Shot Attestation or Exemption Form. Visit the flu shot page on the Emory Human Resources website to learn more about the importance of the flu vaccination and to view FAQs.

(Optional) COVID-19 Screening Test and Symptom Assessment

Emory is committed to creating a safe environment for our community as we return to campus. Emory faculty and staff have access to COVID-19 asymptomatic screening tests as needed. Please click here to schedule your on-campus appointment.

Next Steps

Once you have completed all required steps, you will receive a confirmation email that you are cleared to return to campus (as directed by your supervisor/manager).
