175 Faculty Members
The First 175 Faculty Members Appointed to Emory
This list of Emory's first 175 faculty members reflects the evolution of education as well as the development of the university. Follow the trends in teaching by noting the types of credentials and the range of subjects through the years.
Emory grew slowly at first, taking nearly 50 years to have a faculty of 50 members and more than 75 years to have 100 faculty. Then faculty numbers jumped as Emory's growth accelerated with the university's expansion from the original Oxford campus to the Atlanta campus. At the same time, the history of the university and the Atlanta community resonates through the names listed here.
