Zain Ahmed

As an Emory student, Zain Ahmed demonstrated uncommon social consciousness, initiative, and leadership, receiving a 2008 Emory Humanitarian Award for his work as a Community Building and Social Change Fellow.

Ahmed founded the nonprofit Global Health, Education, and Economic Development -- or Global HEED -- to engage college students in volunteer service for social change. Global HEED, which now has chapters at universities across the U.S., is primarily active in Guatemala, but Ahmed envisions working in other developing nations.

Ahmed graduated with honors in neuroscience and behavioral biology, also completing the requirements for majors in political science and chemistry; he received the Marion L. Brittain Award, Emory's highest student honor.
