James Carmichael

A prominent Georgia business leader, James V. Carmichael began his law career in Marietta after graduating from Emory School of Law.

He was instrumental in persuading Bell Aircraft Corporation to build its assembly plant near Marietta and served as legal counsel to Bell until he was named vice president and general manager of the Marietta operation. Carmichael then became president of Scripto Incorporated, expanding the company worldwide.

In 1951, he was named vice president and general manager of the Georgia Division of Lockheed Aircraft, later Lockheed Martin. Active in community life, Carmichael assumed prominent roles in education and the arts. At Emory he served as a member of the Board of Trustees and its executive committee.
