Virgil Y.C. Eady joined the faculty of Oxford Academy in 1929 and served the college for thirty-seven years, including in the role of dean.
Under his leadership, Oxford's basic liberal arts program developed, becoming a pilot plan for all Methodist junior colleges. Eady increased Oxford's enrollment and inaugurated a World Affairs Institute and Fine Arts Week at the school. Eady also organized the Covington Music Club, an indication of his strong interest in music, which made him director of the band and the freshman glee club at Emory in his early years.
Oxford awards the Eady Sophomore Service Award every year to the sophomore who has given outstanding and selfless service to the Oxford College community.
