One of Emory's important and influential administrators, Charles T. Lester taught chemistry at both the Oxford and the Atlanta campuses and eventually chaired the department.
He later served as dean of the Graduate School, acting dean of Emory College, vice president for graduate studies, vice president for arts and sciences, and executive vice president and dean of faculties.
Following his retirement in 1982, Lester continued to serve Emory as University ombudsman.
