Howard Odum

After a brief stint teaching at Emory, Howard W. Odum moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he established the School of Public Welfare and directed the Department of Sociology.

A few years after his arrival, Odum established the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science and founded the journal Social Forces. Odum toiled constantly to improve race relations, education, and living conditions in the South.
