The multitalented Barbara Brown Taylor isn't easy to pin down. Her twelfth book, An Altar in the World, made The New York Times bestseller list. Baylor University named her one of the twelve most effective preachers in the world. (Billy Graham was another.)

She teaches religion at Piedmont College in northeast Georgia and is an adjunct professor at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. She was named Georgia Author of the Year in 2006. That same year, she received her eighth honorary degree, this time from Wake Forest University.

She lives on a working farm in the Appalachian foothills.
