J. Pollard Turman

Emory's highest award for alumni service to the University bears the name of J. Pollard Turman. An influential humanitarian through his work with the Tull Charitable Foundation, Turman supported institutions across Georgia through his efforts and devoted considerable energy to Emory.

From his student days as a star athlete to a long stint on the board of trustees, Turman never strayed far. Generations of students have lived in residence halls honoring Turman, but his most lasting legacy is the Turman Award. Presented annually since 1998, the award is a crystal "bell cow," a distinctive -- and whimsical -- nod to the namesake's nickname for natural leaders.
