Dean; Vice President; Alumni Leader

Judson C. "Jake" Ward was irreplaceable. When the dean of alumni passed away on November 1, 2009, at the age of ninety-seven, his title was retired.
Ward devoted more than eighty years of his life to Emory, in roles ranging from student leader, to professor, administrator, dean, and interim co-president. In that time, Ward saw Emory grow from a regional college to an internationally respected research university. In the last years of his life, Ward continued meeting with alumni.
Beginning in 2006, Ward personally led Corpus Cordis Aureum -- Emory's special group of alumni from fifty years ago and earlier -- onto the Quadrangle for Commencement.
