Emory Healthcare

Emory Healthcare is the largest and most comprehensive health system in Georgia. Its core purpose is "to serve humanity by making people healthy."
The nonprofit network of outpatient and inpatient facilities is the clinical component of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which also includes Emory's schools of medicine, nursing and public health, as well as Yerkes National Primate Research Center.
In addition to Emory Healthcare, Emory faculty provide patient care at hospital affiliates, such as Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
The resulting network of cross-disciplinary relationships benefits everyone involved. Emory patients and physicians have direct access to leading research, and students and researchers observe real-world applications for their studies and discoveries.
- Physicians within Emory Healthcare provide expertise through 4.7 million patient visits a year, at more than 20 facilities throughout the metro area.
- Emory Healthcare provided $29.2 million in charity care in fiscal year 2008, along with $72 million to teaching and research missions in health sciences at Emory.
- Emory faculty provided $21.4 million in unreimbursed care in 2008 at the publicly owned Grady Memorial Hospital.
- Emory Healthcare has more than 10,000 employees, and accounts for a significant portion of the WHSC's estimated annual $5.5 billion economic impact on metro Atlanta.
Emory Healthcare provides medical oversight for four Emory Flight helicopters on 24-hour standby, in conjunction with Air Methods Corporation. They are based at flight centers in metro Atlanta, Griffin, Jefferson and Cartersville, and cover Georgia and surrounding states.
