In the face of dramatic changes in the legal profession, Emory University School of Law works to promote positive social transformation by advancing the rule of law—through the ideas we generate, the students we educate, and the service we perform. Guided by the ambitious agenda of a new dean, Emory Law is keeping pace with the challenges of the legal profession and changes in legal education nationwide. Whether the topic is climate change, mortgage foreclosure, the place of Islam in the secular state, or the challenges of human vulnerability, the law school presses the boundaries of learning. You can raise the bar with your gift to Emory Law.

Dean’s Priorities

Philanthropy at Emory Law is growing strong, says Dean Robert A. Schapiro. Alumni and friends are connecting their charitable goals with the work of the school, and their investments are shaping legal education, research, and practice opportunities in significant ways.

Among the dean’s priorities for philanthropy at the law school this year are the following.

Build the endowment. Emory Law’s endowment remains significantly lower than those of peer institutions, many of which have endowed funds ten times larger.

Increase overall scholarship funding. Scholarships help make an Emory legal education accessible to the best students and ensure they are financially able to explore the many career options open to them.

Create more scholarships for minority students. Scholarship funding for talented minority students helps Emory Law attract a student body that better reflects the world outside the campus gates, and all students become better prepared to meet the challenges of a complicated society.

Generate support for the Law School Fund for Excellence. Gifts to the dean’s discretionary fund support scholarships, interdisciplinary studies, exceptional programs, and practice opportunities.

Strengthen interdisciplinary efforts such as the health law program
