Rick LaneAssociate Director, Student Services

As associate director for student services, Rick manages the student side of ISSS, working closely with the international student advisors and academic departments. He advises students in the Rollins School of Public Health and the School of Law. He arrived at Emory in 2012 from the University of Illinois at Springfield, where he served as director of international student services and Primary Designated School Official (PDSO), as well as the Knowledge Community for International Student and Scholar Services (KC-ISSS) Representative for the International Educators of Illinois (IEI).

Prior to his time in Illinois, Rick worked for nine years as the coordinator of international student enrollment and PDSO at Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. While there, he also represented his state on the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Region VII leadership team, served as state advocate, and participated as a mentor in the 2004-2006 NAFSA Academy. He joined the NAFSA Trainer Corps in 2008. Rick is co-owner/moderator of Inter-L.

Before entering his second career in international education, Rick served overseas as a consultant with a religious organization for 15 years—10 in Spain and five in Costa Rica—working with university student ministries.

Originally from a small town outside Nashville, Rick loves music, photography, genealogy, gardening, biking, and spending time with his wife, Toni, and his children and grandchildren.
