Jalana advises both international students and scholars (international faculty and staff). She advises students in the following programs: Emory College (economics and economics and math majors); Goizueta Business School graduate students; and Laney Graduate School business and economics students. She also advises scholars regarding employment-based immigration processes in the following departments: School of Medicine Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Graduate Medical Education residents and fellows, Hospital Medicine Unit within the Division of General Medicine, and Pharmacology; and the School of Nursing.
Jalana arrived at Emory in 2012 after serving as associate director of international programs at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she worked with both international student and scholar populations. Prior to that, she worked in the international offices of the University of Missouri and Columbus State University. She also served academic and career advising roles at the University of Missouri. Having previously experienced the warmer southern winters, she welcomed an opportunity to return to Georgia.
Originally from a small town in Missouri, Jalana completed her undergraduate degree in Wales, United Kingdom which sparked her interest in international-related employment. Jalana sought out opportunities to work in the field of international education and has presented at NAFSA: National Association of International Educators. Jalana also holds a master’s in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats, Mr. Kitty and Dinky. Jalana also enjoys photography and painting pottery.
