Changes in Finance
When submitting a request form to host an exchange visitor, the department or unit must provide evidence of sufficient funding for the duration of the program. Documentation of changes in the amount of financial support must be submitted to an ISSS scholar advisor so that the change can be reported in SEVIS and a new DS-2019 issued to the exchange visitor reflecting the change. A copy of the document will be placed in the exchange visitor’s file in ISSS and the exchange visitor should keep the original document for his or her records. To report a change in funding, the hosting department or unit should submit a “Change of Information” request in PeopleSoft with supporting documentation. If an extension of stay request is being made concurrently with the change in funding, both can be included on the same PeopleSoft request form for extension of stay.
Change in Financial Sponsor
Changes in financial sponsorship of exchange visitors are permitted as long as any agreements made with the original sponsor are honored. A hosting department may extend the stay of a scholar and pay the scholar a salary as long as doing so does not violate any agreements made between the hosting department or unit and the sponsor or between the sponsor and the exchange visitor. For example, if there is an agreement that the exchange visitor will return home after a specified period of time, ISSS will not grant an extension of stay or change the financial sponsorship without the written consent of the current sponsor. If an extension of stay and/or change in financial sponsorship was granted and it is later learned that there is an agreement requiring the exchange visitor to return home after a specified period of time and the exchange visitor has not obtained written permission from that financial sponsor to remain in the U.S., ISSS will terminate the extension of stay.
