Departmental administrators need to be aware of the health insurance requirement for J scholars and any dependents accompanying them, since it is an important matter in maintaining legal J status. Willful failure to provide proof of health insurance will lead to a termination of the Exchange Visitor’s program, and the participant will be expected to leave the U.S. immediately.
