Late Arrivals
The beginning and ending dates of the program are shown on the Exchange Visitor’s Form DS-2019. If the Exchange Visitor cannot arrive on time, it may be necessary to update the arrival date in SEVIS and issue a new Form DS-2019 even if s/he has already received the J visa in the passport. An Exchange Visitor is allowed to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the start date until 30 days after the start date of the program. If the start date has passed and the EV has not yet arrived, the department should notify ISSS that an update is needed as soon as possible. A new DS-2019 will be issued showing the amended program dates. Departments are encouraged to help prevent delays by submitting the request forms to ISSS as early as possible and especially no later than 3 months prior to the start date.
