USCIS Permits Stranded Nationals of Japan and Other Countries in the Pacific Up to 30 Additional Days to Depart the United States

March 16, 2011 - The United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) may permit up to 30 additional days to depart the United States for stranded nationals of Japan and other countries in the Pacific who have exceeded or are about to exceed a period of authorized stay due to the recent earthquakes and tsunami in the Pacific.

Nationals of Japan and other countries in the Pacific who are stranded in the U.S. with a nonimmigrant visa should visit the nearest USCIS office with the following: passport; I-94 Arrival/Departure card; and evidence of inability to depart the U.S. (e.g. itinerary for a cancelled flight). Stranded nationals of Japan and other countries in the Pacific who are present in the United States pursuant to the Visa Waiver Program should visit the nearest USCIS office.
