Visa Validity Lengthened for Iranian F and J Nonimmigrants

On May 20, 2011, the U.S. Department of State (DoS) revised the visa validity schedule for Iranian F, M and J nonimmigrants pursuing non-sensitive, non-technical fields of study and research. The revision also applies to their dependents.

This update lengthens the validity period for an Iranian nonimmigrant on an F, M or J visa and increases the number of times the nonimmigrant may use the visa to seek entry into the United States.

Effective with this revision, the visa for an Iranian F, M or J nonimmigrant will be valid for two years, compared to the previous three months. In addition, the nonimmigrant may use the visa for multiple entries into the United States instead of the single entry the previous validity schedule allowed.

An Iranian F, M or J nonimmigrant currently in possession of a three-month, single-entry visa will need to reapply outside the United States at a consular post to be eligible for a visa with the longer validity period.
