Students and scholars who do not present all required documentation at a U.S. port of entry are sometimes issued Form I-515A and a Form I-94 with an expiration date 30 days into the future. A student or scholar who receives this documentation must immediately bring it to his or her Advisor in ISSS to ensure that the original immigration documents are submitted to the Student & Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) within the 30-day window. The student or scholar receives corrected immigration documents by mail following SEVP adjudication.
SEVP has recently announced that the SEVIS system will automatically terminate the record of any student or scholar who fails to submit the documentation within the 30-day window, meaning that legal permission to remain in the United States is immediately lost. Therefore, ISSS reminds you to carefully review our information on Travel prior to taking an international trip so that all required information is available at the U.S. port of entry. If you are issued Form I-515A, please contact an International Student or Scholar Advisor immediately after re-entering the United States so that we may assist you in following the proper procedures.
