The U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai has announced that the post will resume conducting visa interviews for H and L Visa applicants. In early March 2011, the Department of State announced that the Mumbai post would no longer accept new H or L visa stamping appointments due to infrastructure limitations. Specifically, the building in which the visa appointments took place was outdated and too small to accommodate the large number of H and L visa applicants. As a result of the announcement, visa applicants in the H and L category were required to schedule new appointments at other consular posts throughout India.
The Mumbai post resumed scheduling appointments for new H and L visa stamps in late August, and the first visa appointments for new H and L visa stamps were held on September 6, 2011. All interviews will be conducted at the address listed on the post's website until further notice. Applicants for H and L visas may schedule appointments online at the VFS Global scheduling partner website.
