If you are a nonresident for tax purposes and you were able to complete the federal tax form 1040NR-EZ using FNTR, follow the instructions below prepared by the Office of the Controller to complete the Georgia income tax form 500.

NOTE: If you are a resident for tax purpose and unable to complete your federal tax forms using FNTR, OR if you are a nonresident for tax purposes who had to complete the 1040NR (rather than the 1040NR-EZ) using FNTR, the instructions provided by the Office of the Controller in completing the Georgia income tax form 500 will not assist you. 

If you are a resident for tax purposes, you will need to use one of the resources indicated on the resident income tax preparation resources document in completing both your federal and state income tax forms. If you are a nonresident for tax purposes who completed a 1040NR using FNTR, you will need to use one of the resources indicated on the nonresident income tax preparation resources document in completing the Georgia income tax form 500.

For those who completed the 1040NR-EZ using FNTR, the following resources are available to you:

Georgia Income Tax Form 500

The fillable Georgia form 500 must be completed before you can print it. Pages 7 through 11 do not apply to those who are filing the form as nonresidents for tax purposes, so please ignore these pages. At a minimum, the following information must be completed before you can print off this fillable form: taxpayer’s first name, last name, social security number, residential address, city, state, zip code, residency status, and filing status information. 

Remember, you must complete the federal tax form 1040NR/1040NR-EZ before completing the Georgia income tax form 500. The Office of the Controller can only provide assistance to those who have completed the 1040NR-EZ.

For those who completed 1040NR-EZ using FNTR, attempted to complete the Georgia form 500 using the instructions provided, and still have been unsuccessful in completing Georgia Form 500, the Office of the Controller is providing one-on-one assistance. 15-minute appointments are open to any student or scholar who is a non-resident for tax filing purposes, has completed his/her federal tax form 1040NR-EZ using FNTR, and has tried to complete the Georgia income tax form 500 unsuccessfully.
