The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires that all international scholars check-in with Emory after arrival in the United States. The office that will validate your arrival and participation in a valid program/position at Emory is ISSP. You are required to present yourself for check-in within seven days of the start date of your program. Failure to report within this timeframe will result in automatic termination of your legal status.
Scholars attending a check-in session should bring their passport/visa, I-94 Arrival Card, DS-2019 (J-1 Scholars) or I-797 (other scholars if applicable) with them.
Bring all relevant paperwork for dependents with you in the United States.
J-1 Scholars need to supply proof of health insurance to ISSP. For more information please click here.
Information will be provided to you, upon check-in, on issues such as Social Security, drivers license, banking, etc. Please DO NOT attempt to apply for a Social Security number until you have attended a check-in session.
To assist you with the process we have designed an online registration system for check-in sessions. Please sign up for a check-in appointment
