Read the Pre-Arrival Information thoroughly prior to applying for your visa.
Make sure your passport is valid for yourself and for any accompanying dependents for at least 6 months past your anticipated start date.
Visit the website for the U.S. Consulate where you will have your visa appointment.
Contact the U.S. Consulate to schedule an appointment according to the instructions on the Consulate website. Ask for any additional information about
equirements for your visa application appointment.
Read the ISSS website for information on Helpful Suggestions for Your Interview and Security Checks.
Contact your department at Emory if you experience significant delays in visa issuance, and contact ISSS if you experience a delay greater than 30 days.
Make travel arrangements. Contact your department to let them know when you expect to arrive.
Obtain copies of important medical and dental records, x-rays, and prescriptions written in generic terms for you and any accompany dependents.

Obtain certificates of immunizations and vaccinations for you and any accompanying dependents. (These will be required for any children enrolling in school in the U.S.)
We recommend that you have ready access to $2,000-$2,500 US to cover costs on the way to Emory and during your first month in the U.S. If you choose to purchase traveler's checks, remember to keep the receipt separate from the actual traveler's checks.
Talk to your colleagues and friends who may have visited the U.S., or perhaps with someone you know who lives in the U.S. They may have helpful advice and information for you.
Notify your hosting department at Emory and ISSS to let them know that you have obtained your visa and the date you plan to arrive.
Read the Survival Guide on the ISSS website for information on housing, banking, adjusting to a new culture, living in the United States, bringing your family, enrolling children in school, childcare, transportation, and other information.
Re-read the Pre-Arrival Information prior to your departure to ensure you have all documentation necessary to ensure a smooth entry to the U.S.

Employment letter. The letter should include the following:
Exact job title and corresponding profession as listed on the Approved list of TN Professions. (The list is found at http://www.nafta-sec-alena.org/en/view.aspx?x=343&mtpiID=147#Ap1603.D.1);
Detailed description of job duties;
Rate of pay, including benefits and any potential bonuses;
How long your services are required (not to exceed three years), with statement that employment is temporary;
How many hours you are expected to work (i.e. 40 hours/week)
Background establishing that Emory University is an existing institution, to include how long the institution has been in existence (e.g. since 1915), number of current employees (e.g. 16,837), and projected yearly gross income (e.g. $2.1 billion).

Attend the consulate interview. Follow their instructions for waiting for the visa.
