Social Security Appointments

Representatives from the Social Security Administration (SSA) will be available on campus Monday, August 27 and Tuesday, August 28, 2012 to assist students in applying for a social security number (SSN). Only students who are employed may apply for an SSN. However, students who are not employed but intend to drive in the United States should apply for a Georgia driver’s license. In order to do so, they must obtain proof of ineligibility for an SSN prior to applying for a license. Thus, these appointments are available to students who have already secured on campus employment and those who are not working but intend to drive in the United States. Students may sign up for an appointment using the calendar below.

Students who will apply for the SSN must bring a letter from the on-campus employer verifying employment in order to apply. Employers should consult the quick links box to the right to find a fillable PDF document that must be completed prior to the appointment. As indicated in the document, employers should fill in the top portion of the letter and print it on department letterhead. You must bring your I-20/DS-2019, passport, and I-94 to your appointment. You will also be required to bring your own photocopies of these documents to this appointment:

You will not be able to make photocopies of these documents at the time of your appointment, so please be sure to bring the copies with you. Students who need to apply for an SSAL-676 (waiver form needed for those who are not eligible for an SSN in order to apply for Georgia driver’s license) should bring the aforementioned immigration documents and one set of photocopies to the appointment.
