Employment

F-1 Students

F-1 students are eligible to work on the Emory University campus, part-time (20 hours per week) during the school year and full-time (more than 20 hours per week) during vacations. If you receive a stipend (assistantship or fellowship usually for graduate students), this is considered on-campus work and counts towards the number of hours per week you may be employed even if you are not required to perform any duties to receive your stipend. Verify the number of working hours recorded weekly for your stipend with the Human Resources liaison in your department to determine if you may accept additional on-campus employment without exceeding the 20 hour limit.

J-1 Students

Getting paid as a student at Emory

If you will receive any type of payment for services on campus, other than travel reimbursements, you must provide information for Residency Status and Treaty Eligibility to the Controller’s Office. The necessary information to complete Form 8233 (for treaty benefits) and determine residency status for tax purposes must be submitted online.
