Please visit the Student Health Services website for more details regarding the student health insurance requirements.
Medical insurance is mandatory for ALL students at Emory University. You must either purchase the Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan (offered by Aetna Student Health) or provide documentation of enrollment in a comparable U.S. domiciled health insurance plan (i.e. a plan through a U.S. company).
Please note that the School of Medicine (including the Health Professions) requires international students to purchase the Emory sponsored plan and does not allow them to opt-out by purchasing a comparable plan.
If you have not waived out of the Emory plan by July 1, you will be automatically enrolled in the Emory plan. The charge will be placed on your student account and you will be billed by the bursar's office. However, you will have until the first day of fall semester classes to waive out of the plan. If you waive out of the plan after July 1, the charge on your account will be reversed.
For more information about this year's plan, visit the Aetna Student Health page, go to "Students" then “Find Your School” and enter “Emory University.” The plan information is under "Plans & Products Offered to You." You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view some of the information.
If you decide to purchase insurance other than the Emory sponsored plan, you must submit an insurance compliance information.
You will submit your compliance information via the online waiver form in OPUS. This form is not currently available; however, you will see a link to the form in your “To Do” list in OPUS when the form is available. You will be able to enter your information and your compliance will be verified at that time.
Students who begin programs in the spring or summer will be informed of insurance compliance and payment issues closer to the date of arrival.
