Coming to Emory
In general, prospective scholars will need to follow these steps to come to Emory as a scholar. The specific requirements for each visa type can be found at the Policies and Procedures link for the appropriate visa type (see menu on left). Do not plan travel to Emory until you are in receipt of a valid visa.
General Steps For Coming To Emory As A Scholar
- Search the Emory website for job openings or other opportunities in your area of interest.
- Contact the department of your interest:
- to discuss your career goals,
- to ask if there are any available opportunities or openings for positions

Obtain an offer or invitation from the Emory department.

The department will determine which visa is appropriate for the visit.

Provide any information requested by the department.

Maintain communication with the departmental administrator to facilitate its request to sponsor you for a non-immigrant visa. ISSS can only work with the department administrator.

Receive and review documents and instructions from department, pertaining to the visa application.
- Contact the nearest U.S. Consulate in your home country for information and instructions, and schedule an appointment for the visa application after you have received the sponsorship materials from your department.

Review ISSS website for pre-arrival information.

Receive the visa (if applicable).
