H-1B Travel Information

You should review the H-1B travel checklist at least three weeks prior to departure to ensure that you have all necessary documentation in your possession. Check your passport and visa stamp to ensure they will be valid at the time you anticipate re-entering the U.S. If you need to renew your visa stamp while you are abroad, be sure to contact the U.S. consulate prior to traveling to schedule your interview and ensure your compliance with the consular procedures, and have the required documentation ready prior to your departure.

If you need to obtain an H-1B visa, you will need to present a valid passport, the original form I-797, a copy of the H-1B petition, and a letter confirming your current employment to a U.S. consulate or embassy outside the U.S.

ISSS will provide you with a copy of the H-1B petition. If your original I-797 approval notice is still at ISSS, we will provide that to you as well. Please place a request for your documents via ISSS Link at least two weeks before your departure.

The original I-797 approval notice does not need to be returned to ISSS upon your re-entry to the U.S. Please be sure to keep this important document secure at all times. When you return from travel, you must upload your new I-94 and new visa stamp (if applicable) to ISSS Link.

For travel to countries other than your home country: Please note that ISSS does not provide guidance on securing entry visas to third countries. You should take time to research the process for securing entry visas to third countries well in advance of your departure.
