Reduced Course Load Authorization
Federal regulations require students in F-1 immigration status to maintain full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester. Part-time enrollment is only permitted in limited academic and medical circumstances.
Students who wish to enroll in a reduced course load must obtain authorization from an international student advisor prior to withdrawing from a class or classes.
Procedure
Students who wish to request a reduced course load for academic reasons must:
- Complete and sign the less than full-time enrollment request form.
- Make an appointment to see an international student advisor
Students who wish to request a reduced course load for medical reasons must:
- Obtain a letter from the licensed medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy, or licensed clinical psychologist treating the condition which provides information about the illness and his/her opinion on the effects of your medical condition on your coursework. (This information will remain confidential and limited to your required immigration file in ISSS. It will not be shared with anyone outside ISSS.)
- Make an appointment with the international student advisor
Your international student advisor will email you when your new I-20 is ready to be signed and picked up. ISSS requires five business days for processing.
