Reduced Course Load Authorization
Federal regulations require students in J-1 immigration status to maintain full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester. Part-time enrollment is only permitted in limited academic and medical curcimstances. Students who wish to enroll in a reduced course load must obtain authorization from an International Student Advisor prior to withdrawing from class(es).
Procedure
Students who wish to request a reduced course load for academic reasons must:
- Make an appointment to see an International Student Advisor and
- Bring the completed and signed Less than Full Time Enrollment Request Form along with documentation of the academic circumstances requiring reduced course load (ex: initial difficulties with the English language, reading requirements or teaching methods in the first semester of study; improper course placement).
- Make an appointment with the International Student Advisor and
- Bring along a written statement from a physician requiring or recommending an interruption or reduction in your studies
Your International Student Advisor will email you when your new DS-2019 is ready to be signed and picked up. ISSS requires five business days for processing.
