Candler Appoints Associate Dean of Development, External Relations

Mary Lou Greenwood Boice has been named associate dean of development and external relations at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.

Formerly, she had been associate dean of admissions and student services at Candler since 1992.

"Mary Lou Boice brings an understanding of the issues facing theological education, an appreciation of professional education in a university setting, and a commitment to Candler and to Emory that will help us achieve our mission of educating leaders for the church and the world," said Russell E. Richey, dean of Candler, in announcing the appointment.

In her role at Candler, Boice has been a member of the Candler senior staff and was responsible for the recruitment and retention program and supervision of the school’s financial aid program. She also helped engage alumni in admissions activities and served as a liaison between scholarship donors and Candler students.

Prior to coming to Candler, Boice served as registrar, coordinator of financial assistance and assistant director of admissions at Boston University School of Theology.

A United Methodist, Boice holds a master of theological studies degree from Boston University School of Theology. She served eight years on the Board of Trustees of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she received her undergraduate degree. She was a member of the design team for three of the United Methodist Church’s exploration call to ministry programs and was a member of the advisory committee of Russia United Methodist Theological Seminary. Boice and her husband and daughter are residents of Decatur and members of Druid Hills United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
