Profile of Emory University Graduates

On Monday, May 15, Emory University graduated approximately 3,489 students from the academic year 2005-06. Of those students, 32 received simultaneous degrees. An approximate total of 3,521 degrees were awarded: 1,829 undergraduate degrees; 1,213 graduate degrees and 469 professional degrees.

Of the graduates, 41.5 percent are male and 58.5 percent are female. Nearly 62 percent of the graduates are Caucasian (61.5 percent); 11.9 percent are Asian/Pacific Islander; 11.8 percent are black; 2.9 percent are Hispanic and 10.7 percent represent other minorities or are of unspecified race from the United States and abroad. There are 416 students from 88 additional countries. Forty-five states are represented.

There are 41 degree candidates age 50 and older. The oldest is age 71 and is scheduled to earn a master's in theological studies. The oldest bachelor's degree recipient is a 57-year-old scheduled to earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and the youngest is a 20-year-old scheduled to earn a both a bachelor's and master's degree in political science. There are 14 military service veterans graduating.

In Emory College (the main undergraduate arts and sciences college), 42.4 percent of the graduates have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The average GPA of Emory College graduates is 3.34.
