Creating Community Explored at Emory's Candler School of Theology

Bishop Yvette A. Flunder, senior pastor at City of Refuge United Church of Christ in San Francisco, will preach 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at Cannon Chapel during a three-day event entitled "Creating a Community of Radical Inclusion." The event, scheduled Feb. 20-22, is hosted by the Black Church Studies Program at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. The public is welcome to join in worship.

Also open to the public is a lecture by Bishop Flunder and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Bishops Hall, room 311. Reservations are required by contacting Ayanna Kyles at akyles@emory.edu, 404-727-4180.

In addition to her pastorate, Flunder is presiding bishop of Refuge Ministries/Fellowship 2000, a multi-denominational fellowship of more than 50 primarily African American Christian leaders. She is also executive director of the Ark of Refuge Inc., a group created to challenge and overcome the individual and institutional barriers that discourage or prevent underserved populations from accessing vital services. This agency is dedicated to creating culturally sensitive programs that address holistically the complex life circumstances of people in need of basic health, educational and psychosocial services.
