Emory Names New VP of Alumni Relations

Emory University has appointed Allison Dykes as its new vice president for alumni relations. Dykes was promoted from her post as senior associate vice president for the Association of Emory Alumni, a position she had held since 2004.

Under her leadership, the AEA has redefined its role and mission to focus on leadership development and high-level cultivation of volunteers. As vice president of alumni relations, Dykes oversees and leads management and operations for alumni affairs, including more than 20 staff members responsible for university-wide leadership/program development, alumni services, online/Web site services, facilities management, communications, campus relations and annual giving.

Dykes joined Emory in 1997 as director of regional programs, a role in which she developed and managed a university-wide alumni leadership program in major U.S. cities, including 12 national alumni chapters. From 1999-2002, Dykes was AEA's executive director for programming and operations. In that role, she planned and managed the new building completion and all policy development associated with the Miller-Ward Alumni House, which opened in 2000. She also initiated and managed a five-year strategic plan for AEA programming and leadership development. Dykes was named associate vice president in 2002.

Dykes is an active member of the Emory community, and is an appointed member of the Emory President's Commission on the Status of Women, which she also has chaired. She is the recipient of the Presidential Award for Outstanding Contribution, and also serves on the advisory board of the Center for Women at Emory.

Prior to joining Emory, Dykes was director of external and international relations at the Institute of Industrial Engineers in Atlanta. She also has served as assistant director at The Margaret Mitchell House, where she was responsible for the planning and management of special events and volunteer recruitment for the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. Dykes is a 1992 graduate of the University of Georgia.
