"Somewhere between magic and science lies the thing we call technology, and technology changes the art of the possible," says Emory University's Benn Konsynski. He will discuss macro trends in technology and implications for commerce around the globe in "Technology, Magic and SOBs," part of Emory's Great Teachers Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Miller Ward Alumni House, 815 Houston Mill Road, Atlanta. The event is free and open to the public.

Konsynski, George S. Craft Professor of Business Administration, is a leader in decision and information analysis at Emory's Goizueta Business School. He will consider new technologies and new possibilities in our lives, in our home and our work--what magic may come. He also will address principles of teaching and learning, and dealing with SOBs (Students of Benn)--a group of his former students from Emory and Harvard University.

For Konsynski, history is more than a hobby; it's a necessity for futurists who want to challenge assumptions. "History provides a running start to thinking about the future. Commerce in the latter part of the 21st century will little resemble commerce practice of the industrial age, " he says.

An internationally recognized expert on the role of information technology in transforming enterprise and market practice, he has written a number of publications in the technology and management domain and has lectured throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Russia, South Africa and Scandinavia. Konsysnki has won awards for both his teaching and research.

Every year the Great Teachers Lecture Series showcases some of Emory's best teachers. The series is sponsored jointly by Emory's Center for Lifelong Learning, the Emory Office of Public Affairs and the Association of Emory Alumni.
