Profile of Emory University Graduates

On Monday, May 16, Emory University graduated approximately 3,423 students from the academic year 2004-05. Of those students, 39 received simultaneous degrees. An approximate total of 3,462 degrees were awarded: 1,763 undergraduate degrees; 1,217 graduate degrees and 471 professional degrees.

Of the graduates, 44.9 percent are male and 55.1 percent are female. Nearly 65 percent of the graduates are Caucasian (64.8 percent); 11.7 percent are Asian/Pacific Islander; 10 percent are black; 2.7 percent are Hispanic and 10.7 percent represent other minorities or of unspecified race from the United States and abroad. There are 371 students from 79 additional countries. Forty-eight states are represented.

There are 44 degree candidates age 50 and older. The oldest is age 66 and is scheduled to earn a master's in chemistry. The oldest bachelor's degree recipient is a 53-year-old scheduled to earn a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, and the youngest is a 19-year-old scheduled to earn a bachelor of arts in English and creative writing. There are nine military service veterans graduating. In Emory College (the main undergraduate arts and sciences college), 41.5 percent of the graduates have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or more. The average GPA of Emory College graduates is 3.33.
