Candler Consultation on Great Commission Offers Worship Services for Atlanta Commmunity

Some of the most influential Methodist evangelism leaders from around the globe will gather at Emory University to address crucial issues of faith and mission in the 21st Century during the "Consultation on the Great Commission" conference April 3-6. The historic gathering, coordinated by several Methodist organizations, including Emory’s Candler School of Theology, will provide an international context for the church to underscore and reconsider critical issues of evangelism and mission.

Six worship services will be open to the public:

2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, Emory Conference Center Hotel, 1615 Clifton Road. Opening worship service featuring Teresa Fry Brown, assistant professor of homiletics, Candler School of Theology;

7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, Glen Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC), 1652 N. Decatur Road, Emory. Evening worship with Thomas Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching, Candler School of Theology;

11 a.m., Thursday, April 4, Cannon Chapel, 515 Kilgo Circle, Emory. Midday worship service with Alice Rodgers, Aldersgate UMC, Augusta, Ga.;

7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, Decatur First UMC, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. Evening worship and commissioning service with the Rev. Grace Imathiu, First UMC Green Bay, Wis., and Bishop Lindsey Davis, North Georgia Conference of the UMC;

11 a.m., Friday, April 5, Cannon Chapel, 515 Kilgo Circle, Emory. Midday worship service with Gail O’Day, Shatford Professor of Preaching and New Testament, Candler School of Theology;

7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, Oak Grove UMC, 1722 Oak Grove Road. Evening worship with Andrew Walls, University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

The goal of the Consultation is to bring the church’s best thoughts and practices together so that local congregations and agencies can be better prepared to deliver the mission of Christ.
