Emory Ranked 20th by U.S. News & World Report

Emory University ranked 20th among 248 national universities in this year's U.S. News & World Report annual college quality rankings. Emory's Goizueta Business School was 18th in the rankings of undergraduate business programs.

"This year's ranking by U.S. News and World Report reinforces the general sense that Emory University is an excellent research university. While we appreciate this external validation, we have a strategic plan that prepares us for an even brighter future, one that requires that we invest in the individuals who comprise our community, and in the ideas they will develop to make a difference in the world. After all, a lasting contribution to the affairs of the world is the enduring measure of a top university. As we look to the future, we will dare to make a difference," says Emory Provost Earl Lewis.

Emory's rankings on the survey's components included a 16th place ranking in its student selectivity rank. Other components included a 4.0 out of 5 in academic reputation, 9th in faculty resources, 14th in overall financial resources and 22nd in graduation and retention.

The faculty resources rank (20 percent of the final score) is an indicator that is mainly derived from faculty compensation and average class size. At 9th place, Emory had a higher ranking on this measure than Yale (10th), Stanford (11th), Columbia (14th) and several other highly ranked universities.

Emory was 25th among national universities offering the best value. Rankings in this category were based on academic quality and the net cost to a student receiving the average amount of financial aid.

The rankings will be in the Aug. 29 issue of the magazine, which will appear on newsstands Monday, Aug. 22 and at www.usnews.com on Friday, Aug. 19.

Emory University is known for its demanding academics, outstanding undergraduate college of arts and sciences, highly ranked professional schools and state-of-the-art research facilities. For nearly two decades Emory has been named one of the country's top 25 national universities by U.S. News & World Report. In addition to its nine schools, the university encompasses The Carter Center, Yerkes National Primate Research Center and Emory Healthcare, the state's largest and most comprehensive health care system.
