Emory Scholars Weigh in on 'Family Tomb of Jesus'

Steve Kraftchick and Carl Holladay, professors of New Testament at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, will give a reaction to the recent Discovery Channel presentation of the documentary "The Family Tomb of Jesus," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 205 White Hall, 301 Dowman Drive. For more information contact Candler's Office of Church Ministries Education, 404-727-0714, dsasser@emory.edu.

Ted Koppel's discussion with the documentary's producers and other biblical scholars that followed the release of the TV show have generated great interest in the effects that ancient artifacts can have on faith. Kraftchick and Holladay will discuss questions related to the archaeological artifacts discussed in the documentary and their significance for our modern understanding of Jesus of Nazareth.

Holladay is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of New Testament Studies. His research focuses on Luke-Acts, Judaism in the Greco-Roman world and Christology. Kraftchick is associate professor of the practice of New Testament interpretation. His research and writing focus on the Pauline epistles, the parables of Jesus and the history of New Testament interpretation.
