Anonymous Donor Funds Emory Law School Scholarship

An alumnus of Emory University School of Law who wishes to remain anonymous has given a gift of $50,000 to initiate the Judge Anthony Alaimo Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship, which will be awarded to a first-year law student this fall, will provide $3,000 toward tuition in its first year.

"We are delighted to have this scholarship in honor of Judge Alaimo at Emory Law School. He has had a remarkable career of public service, as a veteran of World War II, a leader of the bar, and one of our most distinguished federal judges," says Dean Thomas C. Arthur. "He epitomizes the tradition of service established by Emory's graduates. This new scholarship will keep his career before our students as a model and a challenge for their own lives in the law."

Law school administrators hope many students benefit from the scholarship fund. "We are excited that the Judge Alaimo Scholarship Fund will aid in recruiting top students, and we hope the gift encourages other alumni to help the fund grow," says Rosanne Patton, director of major gifts at the law school.

Alaimo, Emory law class of 1948 and a resident of Brunswick, Ga., served as chief judge of the Southern District of Georgia for 14 years. He is still active on the bench, serving as senior judge.

Prior to attending law school, Alaimo served in World War II as a fighter pilot, and was a prisoner of war for 22 months.

The scholarship was established to honor Alaimo's long legal career on the occasion of his 83rd birthday. Additional donations to the Judge Anthony Alaimo Endowed Scholarship Fund can be sent to: Rosanne Patton, Emory University School of Law, 1301 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, GA 30322
