Emory Remembers Sept. 11 With Three Days of Events

The events, planned by a campus-wide committee of students, faculty and staff, focus on remembrance, reflection and renewal. Monday, September 9 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Display of Community Quilt A quilt made by students expressing feelings about the events of Sept. 11 will be on display. Dobbs Center. 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Health Fair Woodruff P.E. Center 1 – 7 p.m. Blood Donation Drive Woodruff P.E. Center 8 p.m. "In Remembrance: A Slide Show" Student event to set the tone for the week; includes a slide show with music symbolizing feelings about the events of Sept.11. McDonough Field Tuesday, September 10 Volunteer Day A day of community service projects for students. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, Volunteer Emory and the Goizueta Business School. 8 p.m. Lecture: "Freedom of Speech in a Time of War," presented by Aaron McGruder, creator of the cartoon "Boondocks." Glenn Memorial Auditorium. Sponsored by the Emory Ethics Center. Wednesday, September 11 8:45 a.m. Prayer, Moment of Silence and Tolling of the Bells on the Quad Sponsored by Religious Life and the Student Government Association. 4 – 5:30 p.m. Lecture: "Clash of Civilizations or an Islamic Reformation?" by Robert W. Hefner, professor and associate director of the Institute for the Study of Economic Culture, Boston University. Jones Room, Woodruff Library. 5 – 7 p.m. Remembering Sept. 11 Photography Exhibit Opening Reception Campus Life Art Gallery, DUC Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Office of the University Secretary. 7 – 8:15 p.m. University Gathering, featuring Emory psychologist Marshall Duke, with prayer, dance and music from many traditions Glenn Memorial Auditorium. Sponsored by Religious and Campus Life. 8:30 p.m. Candlelight Vigil on the Quad Featuring music by Myron McGhee and Voices of Inner Strength, a student gospel group, with local public safety officials as guests of honor.
