Emory 2002 Holiday Concerts

Emory celebrates the beginning of the holiday season with several concerts to get the community into the spirit. These include annual favorites at Emory as well as Oxford musical events.

Dec. 5-6
Oxford Chorale Holiday Concert.

Dec. 6-7
Southern Folk Advent Service.
Brooks Holifield, preacher. Steven Darsey, music director. The service will be introduced with a set of bluegrass/gospel music led by the Sonny Houston Band and will feature the Meridian Chorale singing hymns that came from a struggling poor community in the 19th-century South.

Dec. 6-7
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
Presented annually since 1935, Emory's adaptation of the 12th-century Christmas service at King's College Chapel in Cambridge, England, includes scripture lessons read in conjunction with the performance of international carols by the University Chorus and Emory Concert Choir. Carols include Bach, "Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light," Rutter, "What Sweeter Music," Martin, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," Redner, "O Little Town of Bethlehem," Handel, "Glory to God" from "Messiah," and Nicolai, "How Brightly Shines the Morning Star."

Dec.13-14
10th Annual Atlanta Celtic Christmas Concert.
The concert celebrates Celtic and Southern Christmas traditions in music, poetry, song, dance and story. This year, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the concert will feature exciting guest artists and some of the top traditional performers from the Atlanta area.
