Release date: April 2, 2003 Emory Hosts National Debate TournamentWHO: Top 80 college debate teams from across the nation WHAT: 57th Annual National Debate Tournament, sponsored by the American Forensic Association and hosted by Emory University's Barkley Forum, the school's debate society WHEN & WHERE: PARKING: Fishburne Deck, 1671 N. Decatur Rd., Emory (access from Fishburne Drive, off Clifton Road) Some of the most argumentative and academic college students in the nation are headed to Emory University for the 57th Annual National Debate Tournament this weekend, ending with the national championship rounds Monday, April 7. The tournament draws the top 80 qualifying college teams from around the country, and is the oldest and most prestigious national collegiate debate championship sponsored by the American Forensic Association. After opening events on Thursday, April 3, the teams will debate for three days Friday-Sunday. The top 16 teams with winning records will then debate in single elimination rounds on Monday, April 7, culminating in the final national championship round that night. The event is being hosted by Emory's Barkley Forum, the university's debate society and one of the oldest student organizations on campus. The Barkley Forum has one of the best records in the nation, reaching the final round every year from 1996-2001 and winning the national championship in 1996 and 2000.
