Emory University's Barkley Forum debate team will host "The People Speak: Atlanta Debates America's Role in the World," a debate about American foreign policy on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in White Hall room 208. The debate will feature members of the Barkley Forum and Emory faculty members Mahmoud Al-Batal, associate professor of Middle Eastern studies, and Dan Reiter, associate professor of political science. They will address questions such as: "Should the United States use preemptive military force to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction?" and "Is America better off working with international institutions?" Following the formal debate will be a question-and-answer period.

"The People Speak: America Debates its Role in the World" is a nationwide event including hundreds of debates across the country. The national event is funded jointly by the Open Society Institute, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the United Nations Foundation as part of their ongoing missions to support grassroots community involvement in foreign policy.
