Lecture by Emory's Robert Franklin to Air on WABE-FM

Emory University theologian Robert M. Franklin's Feb. 2 lecture, “Cosby’s Call and Our Response: What the Church and Community Should Do,” will air on Atlanta's WABE 90.1 FM in its entirety 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Franklin, Presidential Distinguished Professor of Social Ethics at Emory's Candler School of Theology, challenged listeners to develop community-based responses to revive a culture of personal and parental responsibility in the wake of comedian Bill Cosby's values crusade.

Among the goals Franklin outlined are reducing the incarceration rate of African-Americans, developing high-impact programs for societal re-entry of former inmates, and creating programs to help raise the annual marriage rate.

"Ultimately, we must demand and design policies and practices that support people who make an honest effort to live better," says Franklin. "Our neighbors deserve the assistance of a society that has a moral commitment to supporting individuals and families in the journey toward self-sufficiency."
