Profile of Emory University Graduates

On Monday, May 12, Emory University will graduate approximately 3,595 students from the academic year 2007-08. Of those students, 52 will receive simultaneous degrees. An approximate total of 3,647 degrees were awarded: 1,858 undergraduate degrees; 1,291 graduate degrees and 487 professional degrees.

Of the graduates, 41.6 percent are male and 58.4 percent are female. Nearly 59 percent of the graduates are Caucasian (58.9 percent); 12.9 percent are Asian/Pacific Islander; 10.5 percent are black; 3 percent are Hispanic and 14.7 percent represent other minorities or are of unspecified race from the United States and abroad. There are 443 students from 76 additional countries. Forty-seven states are represented.

There are 37 degree candidates age 50 and older. The oldest is age 70 and is scheduled to earn a master of laws degree. The oldest bachelor's degree recipient is a 59-year-old scheduled to earn a bachelor of arts in sociology, and the youngest is a 20-year-old scheduled to earn a bachelor of arts in Middle Eastern studies. There are 17 military service veterans graduating.

In Emory College (the main undergraduate arts and sciences college), 45.2 percent of the graduates have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The average GPA of Emory College graduates is 3.35.
