Emory Student Magazine 'The Hub' Wins Top Regional Honors

The current issue of 'The Hub' includes feature stories exploring Emory's college debating team, transgender students, and the branding of the Emory name.
The Society of Professional Journalists recently named Emory University's student magazine, The Hub, the best college magazine in its region, which includes part of the Southeast. The Hub is published by the Emory Wheel, an award-winning student newspaper that covers the Emory community.

A Hub article about Emory's relationship with Coca-Cola also was named the best non-fiction magazine article in SPJ's Region 3 Mark of Excellence Awards. The Hub and the article are now competing against 10 other universities' publications for the title of "Best in America."

"We're particularly excited because we started The Hub just last fall. To already be competing with the best student magazines in the country is truly remarkable," says Robbie Brown, editor-in-chief of the Emory Wheel and founding editor of The Hub.

The Hub currently is edited by Emory sophomore Chris Megerian.

The Emory Wheel also received second place in the "Best All-Around Non-Daily Newspaper" category. Other awards included third place for in-depth reporting and second place for general column writing.

This year, collegiate journalists submitted more than 3,100 entries in 43 categories across SPJ's 12 regions. First place regional winners advance to the national round of judging. Winners will be announced in mid-May.

The Society of Professional Journalists works to improve and protect journalism. The organization is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
